Zero Waste Intern

Job Description

We are currently seeking a dedicated and qualified Zero Waste Intern. The role of this intern is to help plan, organize, co-ordinate and execute zero waste seminars in the GTA. The Zero Waste Intern reports to the Executive Director. Full training will be provided, but previous experience with the tasks below will be very beneficial to the successful candidate.

 

Responsibilities

  • Add value to our company culture by bringing new ideas and fun to the table
  • Research the impacts of waste and litter on the environment
  • Attend litter cleanups periodically
  • Help develop creative social media posts
  • Create a monthly blog post (300 - 500 words), topics to be determined
  • Meet specified deadlines when submitting work
  • Help with the planning of zero waste seminars
  • Help facilitate the seminars
  • Work with media to provide details about the seminars
  • Organize registration of participants
  • Test zero waste products to determine their efficacy
  • Provide weekly updates via email or Skype to the Executive Director

Experience

  • Have a strong understanding of what “zero waste” means 
  • Do your best to follow a zero waste lifestyle (no ones perfect!) 
  • Some College or University completed, or relevant experience
  • Event planning or public relations experience
  • Article, blog, or essay writing

Expected Commitment

Butt Blitz Coordinator

A Greener Future is a Canadian environmental non-profit organization that focuses on litter cleanup, prevention, and education. Over the past two years our team has picked up over 375,000 pieces of litter in various places around the globe. The most common item we find is cigarette butts which is why we have developed a campaign to help tackle the issue. By raising awareness and providing solutions we hope to help reduce the number of cigarette butts that end up in our ecosystems. 

 

Job Description

We are currently seeking a dedicated and qualified Butt Blitz Coordinator. The role of of the Butt Blitz coordinator is to help plan, organize, co-ordinate and execute the second annual Canada-wide Butt Blitz event as well as projects and tasks leading up to the event. The Butt Blitz Coordinator reports to the Executive Director. Full training will be provided, but previous experience with the tasks below will be very beneficial to the successful candidate. Responsibilities

  • Follow a structured schedule leading up to the Butt Blitz event
  • Research the impacts of cigarette butt litter on the environment
  • Pick up cigarette butts in your community and hand out pocket ashtrays
  • Create weekly social media posts for A Greener Future’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts related to research, butt pick up, statistics, awareness, etc.
  • Create a monthly blog post (300 - 500 words), topics to be determined
  • Help with the planning of the Second Annual Butt Blitz event
  • Coordinate a Butt Blitz event in your city or town
  • Work with media and manage event coordinators across Canada
  • Respond to emails about the event
  • Organize registration of participants
  • Provide weekly updates via email or Skype to the Executive Director
